To Hakuba by Car
Renting a car
Driving in Japan is safe, easy and convenient. Cars are competitively priced and renting one can easily be done anywhere in Japan and from any airport. Road maps of Japan are available at nearly any convenience store. Please double check to make sure you buy one that is written in English. Should you rent a car remember to get your international drivers license from your countryfs auto club before you get to Japan.
From Tokyo
There are two ways to get to Hakuba from Tokyo:
1.) From Tokyo, take the Chuo Expressway north. Drive north until you get to Okaya Junction. At Okaya Junction, take the Nagano Expressway and after about 15 or 20 minutes take the Toyoshina Interchange. Follow Routes 147 and 148, read the signs, you will end up going through Omachi to Hakuba.
2.) From Tokyo, take the Kanetsu Expressway to Fujioka Junction, head towards Nagano on the Joshinetsu Expressway. Take the Nagano Interchange, follow the Hakuba Nagano Olympic road.
Osaka, Kyoto and the greater Kansai area
From Osaka, Kyoto and the greater Kansai area
Take the Meishin Expressway east towards Nagoya. At Komaki Junction, take the Chuo Expressway north. Drive north until you get to Okaya Junction. At Okaya Junction, take the Nagano Expressway and after about 15 or 20 minutes take the Toyoshina Interchange. Follow Routes 147 and 148, read the signs, you will end up going through Omachi to Hakuba.
Nagoya
From Nagoya, take the Chuo Expressway north. Drive north until you get to Okaya Junction. At Okaya Junction, take the Nagano Expressway and after about 15 or 20 minutes take the Toyoshina Interchange. Follow Routes 147 and 148, read the signs, you will end up going through Omachi to Hakuba.
